Excellent, near mint condition. With original box and pictured papers. I bought this pedal new from Peptone in 2009. The documentation included with the pedal describes their mods, which include:
- Upgraded wire and pots
- Adjusted the Tone control
- Added Mid-Cut control (extra knob in the center where original LED was) - get that Violet Ram's head mid scoop or dial in extra mids to cut through in the mix (also adds volume)
- Added 9v DC power jack - these "Black Russian" pedals only ran on battery
- Green LED added
- Replaced knobs
- AND NOW THE BOMB...
They replaced the stock transistors with the killer 2N5133 transistors!!!!!
Yes, this pedal now has the uber-rare 2N5133 transistors, reputed to be the same as the house-marked transistors used by EHX in the original and early Big Muff Pi pedals. If you can find a set of the 2N5133 transistors that are not fake and are of the correct gain levels, you can expect to pay more for them than many pedals cost.
The mods were done very nice and clean. Those transistors could even be removed if you have the skills to do it... Perhaps the usual Russian KT3102E or KT3102EM would sound just as good in there... Just sayin'...
Start with an excellent, near mint Black Russian, add normal Big Muff Pi mods (extra Mids control, power jack, etc), then toss in a set of 2N5133 transistors. That's a box of good stuff.
